Four different players scored for Berry but the Vikings fell in a defensive struggle on the road at Southwestern, 10-5, in Georgetown, Texas Friday night.
Trailing 2-0 in the first quarter, goals by
Molley Cross and
Abby Sprayberry helped Berry (2-1) knot the score at 2-all after one quarter of action. Sprayberry would score again in the second quarter, but a Pirates goal with just under five minutes to go before halftime gave the home side a 4-3 lead heading into intermission.
Southwestern scored the first two goals of the second half, but
Adrienna Van Soelen stopped the bleeding with a tally with less than six minutes gone in the third quarter to make it 6-4. The sides swapped goals again, with
Alexa Medor scoring to make it 7-5 late in the quarter. Southwestern would score off the draw before the quarter ended to make it 8-5, then added two more goals as the Vikings were held scoreless in the fourth quarter to make it a 10-5 final.
Ally Washburn had seven saves in the cage for the Vikings in defeat.
The Vikings continue their Texas two-step tomorrow when they face the University of Dallas.
