Berry's men's and women's swim and dive teams each finished in fifth place at the SCAD Invitational at the Chatham County Aquatic Center in Savannah, Ga., with the final day of the three day event happening Saturday.
Men's Recap
Team Result: The Berry men placed fifth with a score of 229, as Wingate took the overall title with a score of 1,279.
School Record:
Sam Tate set a new school record in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 57.42.
Other Top Swims:
Noah Brand came in eighth in the 100-Yard Fly with a 52.31. He also placed 17th in the 100-Yard Freestyle with a 46.44
Ross Valdez set three season-best times, placing seventh in the 1650-Yard Freestyle with a 16:15.82, 16th in the 500-Yard Freestyle with a 4:39.89, and a season-best in the preliminaries for the 200-Yard Freestyle with a 1:44.10.
Tate had season-bests in the 200-Yard IM with a 1:53.88, good for 12th place. He also set a personal-best with a 1:51.08 in the 200-Yard Backstroke.
Ethan Whiting continued to show improvement, setting season-bests in the 400-Yard IM (4:15.24), the 200-Yard Freestyle (1:47.74), and the 500-Yard Freestyle (4:53.85).
Ryan MacKinnon set a personal-best in the 200-Yard Breaststroke with a 2:10.12, part of four season-bests set during the meet.
As a team, the Vikings set 16 personal-bests and 37 season-bests over the course of the competition.
Women's Recap
Team Result: Berry finished in fifth place with a score of 275 as Wingate won the meet with an overall score of 1,159.
Top Swims: As a team, the Vikings set 18 personal-best marks and 33 season-best marks out of 56 entries.
Hannah Smith contributed 22 points to Berry's team score. Smith was ninth in the 100-Yard Fly with a season-best 57.49, while also placing 10th in the 50-Yard Freestyle with a season-best 24.60.
Grace Pleasant was seventh in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a 1:06.18, but set season-bests in the 200-Yard Breaststroke finals with a 2:27.40, and also set a personal-best with a 2:11.63 in the 200-Yard IM.
Viola Hasko set a personal-best with a 1:07.57 in the 100-Yard Breaststroke, good for ninth place in the meet. She also placed 10th in the 200-Yard Breaststroke (2:27.06), setting a personal-best in the prelim round. Hasko rounded out her meet with a personal-best in the 200-Yard IM (2:23.56).
Sarabeth Brown set personal-bests in the 50-Yard Freestyle (25.45), the 100-Yard Fly (59.31), and the 200-Yard Fly (2:13.93).
Isabella Decker was 11th in the 50-Yard Freestyle with a 24.66, while setting personal-bests in both the 100-Yard and 200-Yard Backstroke events.
Juila Oliver set three season-bests and one personal-best at the meet, placing 10th in the 400-Yard IM with a season-best mark of 4:48.35.
Berry's swim and dive teams will be back in action in the new year, competing Jan. 13-14 at the Viking Classic at The Cage Center in Mt. Berry, Ga.
