MOUNT BERRY, Ga.- The Berry Vikings (1-1) saw their first loss of the season 83-70 to LaGrange on Saturday night in the Cage Center for the first game of the CCS/SAA Classic.
Berry was able to maintain and outscore the Panthers into a 24-15 lead by the end of the first quarter. Two Kendaie Lee three pointers pushed the Vikings to a 17-10 lead, establishing offensive momentum early in the game. Lee sank yet another three pointer propelling her team to a comfortable lead.
Roles were reversed in the second quarter, LaGrange tallying 26 total points to the Vikings' 18. In the last three minutes before halftime, the Panthers scored 15 points to cut the deficit to 42-41.
The Vikings took advantage of free throw opportunities to get their lead back to 46-41. LaGrange tied it up at 51, then saw their first lead of the night on a three pointer.
McKenna Lentych put Berry within a point making two free throws just before the third quarter concluded.
The Panthers ran away with the lead in the last half of the fourth. Lee put the Vikings within two points of a tie 66-64, but that would be the closest that Berry would be able to get within LaGrange for the remainder of the game.
Lee led the team in points with 18,
Sydney Blankenship followed with 14.
The Vikings will face Piedmont on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the Cage Center to conclude their tournament weekend.
