Streaking Vikings Run Win Tally to 13

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - No. 5-ranked Berry defeated SAA foe Sewanee in three sets, 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-20), for the second time this season Friday night in the Cage Center. The Vikings remain undefeated in the SAA, and secured their 13th straight win.

Set one started off slowly seeing eight ties before a three point run from Berry forced a Tiger timeout. Sewanee managed to keep it close until the Vikings found themselves up 20-16, forcing Sewanee to huddle up yet again. A Molly Bergin kill put the Vikings at set point, and the win of 25-22 was sealed by a Sewanee attack error. Berry put on a blocking clinic in the first set with 11 block assists as a team.

The Vikings (13-2, 9-0) won the second set 25-20 via 20 kills. Their power in the front row served them well early, with four different Vikings getting a kill to put the home side up 5-2. Just like the previous set, Sewanee (7-10, 3-5) was able to work their way back to a tied frame at 7-7. Offensive errors on the home side gave Sewanee a lead they were able to maintain for a majority of the set, until the Vikings took back the lead 19-18 thanks to a Peyton Breissinger kill. Jazzy Innis forced another Sewanee timeout as Berry was on the verge of taking the second set up 23-20. Two points later, the Vikings had built a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five.

Berry got off to a hot start to the third set, but just as the previous sets showed, the Tigers rallied back to tie the set. Four kills in a row, three of which from Mallow, inched the Vikings closer to their 13th straight win. Bergin had the final word of the night, laying down the 25th point of the third set to claim the victory.

A total of 31 tied scores and 14 different lead changes transpired between the two teams. Breissinger and Mallow both collected 11 kills each on the night, with Mallow hitting at a .556 clip for the night. The team totaled had 11.5 blocks as a team, with seven total blocks coming from Lilly Teagle, a career-high. Emily Rapach dished out 39 assists, and Kate Whittle had 25 digs in the back row.

The Vikings will be back in the Cage on Saturday at noon, taking on Centre to cap off Mountain Day weekend.
