Swim Teams Have Solid Show at Sewanee Invite

Berry's swim and dive teams had an excellent showing Friday and Saturday at the Sewanee Invitational in Sewanee, Tenn., as the men finished in third place while the women finished in fourth.

Men's Competition
While Berry finished in third, the Vikings were the top D-III team at the meet, besting Southern Athletic Association foes Sewanee and Birmingham-Southern. The Vikings totaled 708 points, just behind Montevallo's 728.5 for second place.
  • Breck Richards, Mac Shefchunas, Noah Brand, and Harrison McNeil finished second in the 100-Yard Medley Relay with a 44.94.
  • Brand would win the 50-Yard Butterfly in a time of 22.82.
  • Brand, Sam Tate, McNeil, and Hunter Kenny would team to win the 100-Yard Freestyle Relay in 40.19.
  • Ross Valdez cruised to a win in the 1650-Yard Freestyle in 16:35.55, with Ethan Whiting placing fourth in 17:13.90.
  • Richards, Tate, Brand, and Kenny would place second in the 200-Yard Relay in 1:37.14.
  • Valdez came home in third in the 500-Yard Freestyle with a 4:52.41.
  • Brand's time in the 100-Yard Freestyle of 46.62 was good for third.
  • Shefchunas just missed a top-three finish in the 200-Yard Breaststroke with a 2:20.74.
  • Brand, McNeil, Valdez, and Tate just missed a win in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay with a 1:27.45, getting edged by just .15.
Women's Competition
The Vikings placed fourth on the women's side with 630 points, just behind Sewanee's 656.5.
  • Grace Pleasant placed second for the Vikings in the 50-Yard Breaststroke with a 31.29.
  • Hannah Smith, Katie Groves, and Sarabeth Brown went 2-3-4 in the 50-Yard Butterfly, with times ranging between 26.99 and 27.28.
  • Molly Heath, Pleasant, Smith, and Groves teamed to place second in the 200-Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:53.72.
  • Pleasant's time of 1:08.29 was good enough for second in the 100-Yard Breaststroke, as the winner in the event from Emmanuel set a meet record.
  • Pleasant took the top spot in the 100-Yard Freestyle in 56.45, with Young placing third in 56.84 and Heath taking fourth in 57.36.
  • Viola Hasko touched in third in the 200-Yard Breaststroke with a 2:31.18.
  • Groves took second in the 100-Yard Butterfly as the winner from Emmanuel broke the meet and pool records with a 58.00
Berry's teams will be back in action this Saturday at Centre.
