MOUNT BERRY, Ga.— Berry's women's soccer team accumulated many offensive chances against Oglethorpe as the Vikings finished in a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon at Bob Pearson Field.
The draw means the Vikings finish Southern Athletic Association regular season play with a 5-1-1 mark and will finish one-half game behind Sewanee in the regular season standings.
Lyndsey Francingues led the offense with two shots on goal for the Vikings.
Karsen Brantley,
Nicole Knight,
Abby Morgan, and
Peyton Goolsby all had one shot on goal. The Vikings mounted 24 shots in the game, with six on goal and four off the crossbar.
One of the biggest chances came in the first half when
Karsen Brantley's penalty kick effort rang off the crossbar and spun away. Many of Berry's other shots would come from long range as Oglethorpe parked nine players in the defensive half of the field, including the keeper, for the majority of the contest.
Berry led the possession percentage with 73 percent. The Vikings attacked on offense for 84 percent of their possession; however, Berry could not break down the Stormy Petrals defense.
The defensive effort for the Vikings held strong as one single shot was allowed for Oglethorpe. Berry had seven corners in the game..
Berry will enter the SAA Championships as the No. 2 seed and will host a quarterfinal round game next Saturday at a time to be determined.
