Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | by Jason Hanes

Vikings Lay Siege to Hendrix

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - A seven-goal Senior Day outburst helped Berry's women's soccer team maintain a share of the top spot in the Southern Athletic Association standings as the Vikings defeated Hendrix, 7-0, at Bob Pearson Field Saturday afternoon.

Senior Tori Toellner opened the scoring with a brace in the opening 25 minutes of the contest, taking advantage of a cross from Karsen Brantley on the first goal and another cross from Christina Marijanich on the second to make it 2-0 early. The two goals give the Milton, Fla., native 10 for her career.

Mia Ries would also net a pair of goals in Sunday's contest, with her first capping the scoring in the first half in the 27th minute off a pass from Marijanich for a 3-0 lead. Ries would make a tremendous play in the box to finish off a cross from Kendall Varitek in the 80th minute to complete her brace.

After Brantley scored from the penalty spot in the 69th minute, Haley Stephens scored in the 76th minute as Lyndsey Francingues crossed into the box to add an assist.

After the strike by Ries in the 80th minute, Marijanich would finish off the scoring barrage as she scored her ninth career goal and first of the season on a shot from outside the box off a feed from Molly Hellwig. Hellwig would earn her first career assist to make it a 7-0 margin of victory.

The win over Hendrix (10-5, 3-3) keeps Berry tied with Centre in the top spot in the SAA standings. Berry (9-4, 5-1) would hold the tiebreaker for the top seed in the SAA Championships due to beating the Colonels earlier this season.

Two games remain on the regular season schedule for the Vikings, beginning with a non-conference affair this Tuesday as Piedmont visits. Opening kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
