Men’s Lacrosse Splits Over the Weekend, Winning Big on Senior Day

Rome, Ga. – The Berry College men's lacrosse team fell to conference rival Rhodes on Friday, 14-10, but bounced back and defeated Hendrix on Sunday, 19-13.

The Vikings improve to 5-2 and 2-2 in SAA play. They will travel to Birmingham-Southern on April 9 for the season finale.

Offensively, Tyler Banfield and Jake Sheerin led the Vikings with three goals each. RJ Maraski played the entirety at goalkeeper, recording nine saves.

The Vikings scored first in Friday's showdown, but Rhodes would quickly tie it up 1-1. Rhodes led just 9-7 at halftime.

The game saw a lot of back-and-forth action and aggressive play on offense, with Rhodes taking 40 shots and Berry taking 37 overall. Berry never trailed more than four goals and continued to answer back when Rhodes would score. However, Rhodes would get the last two goals late in the game to secure the 14-10 win.

Berry picked up 24 ground balls, won 14 faceoffs and was successful on 9-11 clear attempts.

Sunday was senior day for the Vikings as they honored Mitch Estes, Jeremy Ritter, Jack Fitzgerald and Gridley Wright. Berry would take an impressive 19-13 win over Hendrix who had won four straight coming into Valhalla.

Hendrix took a quick 2-0 lead, but a goal from Nick English would cut their lead to just one. Berry would then jump out to a 6-4 lead to wrap up the first quarter. To start the second half, Berry took an 11-7 lead, but the Warriors were resilient and made it a 13-11 game, in Berry's favor, as the game shifted to the final period.

The fourth period would go in Berry's favor, as the Vikings outscored the Warriors 6-2.

Nick English, Jackson Blaylock and Connor Ryan each had three goals. Maraski started at goalkeeper and tallied two saves. David Gottesman also saw some action and would tally three saves.
