Women’s Lacrosse Sweeps Hendrix in Thrilling Fashion

Rome, Ga. – The Berry College women's lacrosse team defeated Hendrix on Saturday in double overtime, 15-14, and on Sunday, 8-7.

Improving to 4-4 overall, the Vikings came out aggressive in both showings vs. the Warriors, taking 42 shots to Hendrix's 32 in game one and 23 shots in game two.

Game one was an offensive showdown, as both sides were finding their way to the goal. Hendrix took an early 4-0 lead in the first period, but six straight Viking goals put them back on top 6-4 and they took the 8-6 lead going into the half.

The second half saw a lot of back and forth between the two teams, but Hendrix was able to execute on a few free position shot attempts late in the half and go up 14-11. However, the Vikings' kept their composure and with just over three minutes to play, Carlee May, Adrienna Van Soelen and Haley Larsen each connected with a goal to tie the game, 14-14, and force overtime.

In overtime, Hendrix would get the opportunity to win the game off a free position shot, but a violation would keep the Warriors from scoring and force a second overtime period. Berry's Van Soelen won the draw control to start the second overtime and would put Berry in position to score and they did just that. Following a foul from Hendrix, May was given the perfect opportunity to take a shot and she scored to secure the 15-14 Berry win.

Goalkeeper Andrea Lindgren tallied 11 saves, earning her third win on the year.

Game two was more of a defensive outing, as Berry lead Hendrix just 4-2 at the half. Lindgren had three huge stops in the first half to keep Hendrix to just two goals in the first, which would be helpful later in the game. During the second half, Berry's May struck first to increase the lead to 5-2, but Hendrix kept fighting back and made it a 6-4 game with a little over 18 minutes to play. Larsen and Abby Sprayberry would score the last two goals for the Vikings to secure the 8-7 lead and victory.

Overall, Berry was impressive across the board on the weekend, winning 22 draw controls in game one, going 12-14 on clear attempts in game one and 14-16 in game two and picking up 32 ground balls in game one and 29 in game two.
