MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The men's soccer earned a hard earned 2-0 victory over Maryville on Wednesday night, with goals scored by team captain
Josh Pruett and
Zachary Ernst in the second half.
The first half saw both The Vikings and The Scots enjoying space on the flanks. The Vikings had the better chances throughout the first half with corners being the main source of danger for the home side, forcing many saves from the opposing keeper. Berry's best chance came in the 44
th minute, with
Henry Asbill and
Jacob Antoine seeing their shots saved only eight seconds apart from each other.
The second half started out in a similar fashion, with both teams trying to gain an advantage on the counter, resulting in both Berry and Maryville having shots rattle off the crossbar.
The Vikings would get the upper hand on The Scots with Antoine dribbling his way into the 18-yard box, drawing a penalty in the process. Pruett would convert the penalty in the 73
rd minute, sending the Maryville keeper the wrong way.
Berry would double their lead only two minutes later after Ernst scored a stunner from the free kick spot in the 74
th, sealing the 2-0 victory for The Vikings. Berry would have ten shots on target to Maryville's zero.
Berry men's soccer return to action at home against Piedmont College on Monday, March 1 at 7:00 p.m. EST.
