The Berry swim team opened the new season hosting Southern Athletic Association foe Centre on Saturday at the Cage Natatorium, with the men's squad rolling to a 157-115 win while the women were edged by the Colonels, 142-138.
Leading the men was junior All-American
Noah Brand, who touched the wall first in the 50 and 100 freestyle, won the 100 butterfly and swam a leg in Berry's win in the 200 medley relay with teammates
Breck Richards,
Emilio Rico and
Hunter Kenny.
Sam Tate added a pair of wins for Berry winning the 100 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley, as did
Ethan Whiting in the 1,000 and 500 free), while
Ross Valdez won the 200 free.
Berry's women came out of the blocks with several wins as well, including the winning 200 medley relay foursome of
Isabella Decker,
Viola Hasko,
Hannah Smith and
Paris Thornburg.
Thornburg also won the 100 and 200 breaststroke, Decker added a win in the 200 backstroke and
Sarah Fincher was a double winner claiming victories in the 500 and 1,000 free.
Berry remains in familiar water on Friday when they host the Viking Fall Fest starting at 5 p.m.
