The Berry men's and women's swim teams came up just short of topping visiting NAIA opponent Savannah College of Art and Design on Saturday at the Cage Swim Center, but a freshman served notice about what's ahead.
The men's squad was clipped by SCAD 128-127 while the women jumped out to an early lead but fell 142-126 in Berry's second outing of the season.
However, it was first-year swimmer
Paris Thornburg who carved her name in the program's record book when she posted a new pool record in the women's 100 Breaststroke. The old record of 1:07.32 that stood since 2019 was eclipsed with Thornburg touching at 1:06.95.
Also posting first-place finishes for the women were
Belle Bryant (1 meter diving),
Isabella Decker (100 back),
Hannah Smith (100 free and 100 fly),
Viola Hasko (200 breast) and the 200 medley relay team.
The Vikings' 400 free relay team touched the wall first in the men's competition, while Brack Richards (100 back),
Noah Brand (100 free) and
Ross Valdez (500 free) also claimed first-place finishes.
Next weekend the Vikings travel to Kentucky to take on the University of the Cumberlands.
