MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Alex Weems led the Vikings with 18 points as the Berry College women's basketball team defeated Wesleyan (Ga.) College 83-49 in their season opener on Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Vikings shot 39.7% to the Wolves' 26.6%.
- Berry also added 9 three-pointers to Wesleyan's 6.
- Jumping out to an early, 6-0, lead to start the game, the Vikings were then ahead, 38-14, at the half, never trailing in the outing.
- Berry led the game in rebounds (64-33), blocks (5-1), and steals (12-6) as well.
BERRY STATISTCAL STANDOUTS:
- Weems: 18 points, 5-for-13 FG, 8-for-13 FT, 11 rebounds
- Ashley McKee: 11 points, 4-for-9 FG, 3 3FG, 4 rebounds
- Alex Kiernan: 10 points, 4-for-10 FG, 2 3Fg, 8 rebounds
- Nia Smith: 11 points, 4-for7 FG, 1 3FG, 8 rebounds
WESLEYAN (GA) STATISTICAL STANDOUTS:
- Kyla Williamson: 11 points, 3-for-12 FG, 3 3FG
- Alexis Russell: 7 points, 3-for-6 FG
- Taylor Hauser: 5 points, 6 rebounds
NOTABLES:
- The Vikings only scored 83 or more points in one game last year.
- They also fell to the Wolves, 77-45, in their second game of the 2015-16 campaign.
- Twelve of Berry's 16 women roster added at least one point in the victory.

The Vikings will play William Peace in their next game on Friday, Nov. 18. Tip-off is set for 8:00pm and will be the first of Berry's three games at the Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament.
