Box Score ROME, Ga. – Millsaps College defeated Berry College, 56-53, in Southern Athletic Association women's basketball at the Cage Center on Sunday.
Trailing 56-53 in the final seconds, Berry set up a play in an attempt to tie, but Emma Cook's 3-pointer missed as time expired.
The Vikings dropped to 7-7 and 1-2 in SAA play. The Majors moved to 8-6 and 1-1.
Rosie Lynch notched a team-best 10 points for the Vikes. She was 3-of-7 from the field, drained two 3-pointers and dished five assists. Zarriah Pierce contributed nine points and both Nia Smith and Imani Smith added eight.
The highly competitive game featured 14 lead changes and seven ties.
The Majors led 29-25 at halftime. MC led 42-41 at the end of the third quarter after BC outscored the visitors 16-13 in the period.
In the fourth quarter, Nia Smith made a 3-point basket with 6:03 remaining to give BC a 48-47 edge—and its last lead of the game.
Millsaps shot 42-percent (22-53) to Berry's 35-percent (16-46). The Majors won the battle of the boards, 36-29.
Kala-Jewel Freeman and Kasi Matthews each had 16 points to lead Millsaps.
The Vikings play at Oglethorpe on Saturday.
