BIRMINGHAM --Heading to Saturday's final day of the SAA Championships, the Berry College men are in third place and the BC women Vikings are holding onto fifth place.
Friday evening started with senior Adam Jarrell grabbing a fifth place in the 400 individual medley with teammate Trevor Bradley taking 13th. The women's 100 butterfly saw freshmen Leah Berndt and Elly Wagner place 14th and 15th place respectfully. The men's 100 butterfly finished with junior Cameron Grant in 14th, junior Matt Siniard in 11th, freshman William Walker in fourth and senior Conor Monaghan winning his second conference title with an NCAA National "B" cut time of 49.71. He nearly eclipsed his own conference record of 49.50 from last year.
Four Viking men teamed up in the 200 Freestyle. Adam Jarrell and fellow senior Johnathan Purdy finished 10th and 9th, while junior Joey Ellwanger took sixth and freshman Mac Stovall rounded out the team in fourth.
The ladies got to work in the 100 Breaststroke with freshman Micaela Campagna earning sixth and junior Janelle Spanjers finishing in fourth place. The men again put four in scoring position in the breaststroke with Trevor Bradley in 14th, sophomore Tyler Wiseman in 12th, freshman Bates Jones in fifth and leading the charge was sophomore Robbie Ellwanger. He set a new school record by going 58.98.
The women's 100 backstroke ended with freshman Cedar Hawks placing 15th and sophomore Brooke Brogdon posting a new school record of 1:01.48 to take fifth. On the men's side, freshman Noah Wagner swam to an 11th place and freshman Garrison Bemis took second.
Wrapping up the evening was the 200 medley relay. The ladies placed ninth and fourth and the men's B-relay went ninth. The men's A-relay, however, closed the night with a win for Berry. Bemis, Robbie Ellwanger, Monaghan and Johnathan Purdy set a new meet record and school record of 1:33.23.
"This was just a stellar night for us," said Head Coach Paul Flinchbaugh. "Our men are doing great since we gave up 51 points to Sewanee in men's one meter diving, and 39 points to Centre. We still maintain a 45 point lead over Sewanee while trailing Centre by just 38. What more could you ask for on Friday the 13th?"
The meet concludes with an evening session beginning at 7 p.m. EST. on Saturday.
