DEMOREST, Ga. -- Piedmont's Chris Meek made a buzzer-beater layup as the Berry College men's basketball team fell to Piedmont, 74-72, on Monday afternoon.
The loss dropped the Vikes to 2-4, while the win improved the Lions to 4-3.
Caleb Johnson led the BC offense with 17 points, shooting 7-of-14 from the field. He also sank two three-pointers and grabbed seven rebounds in the loss.
Lukas Kornwas the only other Viking with double-digit points on the afternoon. Korn shot 4-of-6 from the field, scoring a season-best 10 points for Berry. He was also 2-of-4 from the free throw line and had one steal.
Owen Jacobs and Alton McCloud also added to the BC offense, scoring 9 points apiece.
The lead changed six times in the contest and was tied on eight occasions. Berry led 33-31 at halftime.
The Lions kept the game close and BC had their last lead with 31 seconds to play in the second half.
Following two free throws by McCloud, the Vikes were ahead 72-69. Piedmont's Peyton Luken then sank a three-point shot to tie the game up with 72 points a piece and thirteen seconds to play.
Meeks last-second lay-up sealed the Lions' victory.
Piedmont shot 44-percent (28-of-63) to Berry's 39-percent (27-of-69). The Vikes however had 45 rebounds to the Lions' 39.
Berry will travel to Maryville, Tennessee, to take on Maryville in their next game on Wednesday, December 16 at 7 p.m.
