Women's Basketball Upended by EMU, 78-63

SALEM, Va. -- Eastern Mennonite outscored Berry College by 10 points in the final quarter en route to a 78-63 victory on the final day of the Roanoke Tournament.

The Royals moved to 3-1 and the Vikings dropped to 2-2.

Zarriah Pierce led four BC players in double digits with 16 points. She was 6-of-13 shooting and made two 3-pointers.

The game was tied at 31 at halftime. Eastern Mennonite led 55-50 after the third period.

"This was a game of offensive runs," said Vikings' Head Coach Stephanie Dunn. "EMU is a nationally-recognized program and we played them well. They finished the game with the final run, but I'm proud of how our team competed."

EMU's Jess Rheinheimer notched a game-best 26 points. She was 8-of-14 from the field and made all seven of her free throws. 

Valerie McLure contributed 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting for Berry. Emma Cook added 12 points, while Rosie Lynch scored 10 points and had a team-high seven rebounds.

EMU shot 46-percent (26-57) to Berry's 38-percent (26-68). Eastern Mennonite made 18-of-21 (86-percent) free throws to BC's 5-for-7 (71-percent).

The Royals won the battle of the boards, 40-33.

The Vikings play LaGrange College next Saturday in Atlanta. The game is part of the USA South-SAA Challenge and is hosted by Oglethorpe.

Note: Pierce and Cook were named to the all-tournament team.
