Women's basketball falls to Rhodes ins SAA semis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Rhodes College defeated Berry College, 85-70, in a Southern Athletic Association semifinal game on Saturday. Berry closes its season at 14-12. Rhodes (23-3) plays Centre for the SAA Championship on Sunday.

Mel McLean scored 21 points to lead the Vikings. She was 7-11 shooting and made 5-6 three-pointers in the contest. Chanlir Segarra had 15 points and Emma Cook added 13 for BC.

Rhodes led 52-38 at halftime. For the game, Berry shot 41-percent (19-46) to RC's 48-percent (34-71). Both Clubs grabbed 35 rebounds.

"We played hard but came up short tonight," said Berry Head Coach Stephanie Dunn. "I'm happy with our effort this weekend and I'm optimistic about the future of this program."

Lauren Avant had 24 points and had 20 at halftime. Dy'nelle Todman added 18 points for the Lynx.
