Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mel McLean scored a game-best 20 points as Berry College ended conference regular season play with an 80-75 win at Birmingham-Southern on Sunday.
Berry improved to 13-12 and 6-8 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Panthers dropped to 10-15, 6-8.
With the win, the Vikings earned the fourth seed at next week's SAA tournament. BC tied with BSC and Hendrix with a 6-8 mark in conference, but earned the higher seed due to tiebreakers.
McLean was 8-16 shooting and made four 3-pointers. Chanlir Segarra, who did not play at Millsaps on Friday night, played all 40 minutes and had 19 points and nine assists. Emma Cook scored 14 points and had nine rebounds.
Berry led 43-42 at halftime. The Vikings shot 44-percent (27-62) from the field to BSC's 40-percent (25-63). Both teams had 39 rebounds and 11 turnovers.
"The team played hard and efficient today," said Berry Head Coach Stephanie Dunn. "We played good defense down the stretch during crucial moments. We finished the season with a winning record and a good seed for the tournament and I'm proud of the team."
Elizabeth Bromirski led four Panthers in double figures. She had 18 points and 13 rebounds.
The fourth-seeded Vikings and the fifth seeded Panthers will meet again on Friday night. The SAA Tournament will be held at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn.
