DANVILLE, Ky. - - With her first hat trick of the season, Maggie Midkiff led the Berry College women's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Millsaps College on Friday afternoon. The win advanced the Vikings to the semifinal round of the Southern Athletic Association Conference Championships.
The win improved the Vikings to 16-2 overall. The loss ended the Majors' season with a 2-13-1 record.
Millsaps' Lindy Robichaux scored the first goal of the game less than two minutes into the first half. Her hard shot from outside the box put the Majors up, 1-0.
BC rallied back, however, as Midkiff tallied 39 seconds later with a shot just inside the box to even the score, 1-1.
Midkiff found the back of the net again in the sixth minute. Her shot from the side of the box put the Vikings up 2-1.
Off of a corner kick from Bella Fornuto in the 12th minute, Midkiff scored her third and final goal of the day. Midkiff now has 25 goals this year. The score remained 3-1 at halftime.
In the 71st minute, Sara Dillon ensured the Viking win with her shot just inside the box that sailed over the keeper's head.
The Vikings led in shots (24-6) and corner kicks (3-1).
For Millsaps, Elise Davis collected 15 saves in the loss. Berry's Jackie McGivney collected two saves in the win.
"This was a good result today, but our performance could have been better," said Berry Head Coach Lorenzo Canalis. "We have to play better tomorrow to advance to the finals."
Top-seeded Berry will face host Centre at 12 p.m. on Saturday in a semifinal match.
