GAINESVILLE, Georgia -- The Berry College swimming and diving teams competed at the fourth annual Brenau University Invitational. The multi-session competition was held at the Frances Meadows Aquatic Center.
The meet began on Friday night and concluded the following afternoon. There were a total of 36 events throughout the three sessions during two days of competition. The invitational hosted ten women's teams and six men's teams.
The Vikings started strong on Friday night by opening up the meet with competitive swims in the 400 Medley Relay. The women's "A" relay finished seventh with a 1:45.38. And the men's "A" relay placed first with a time of 1:27.65.
Following the relays on Friday night, Johnathon Purdy won the Men's 50 Freestyle with a time of 21.81, while Cameron Grant placed third with a 22.08.
The Vikings continued to excel on Saturday, posting positive times for this point in the season. In the morning session, Freshman Garrison Bemis won the 100 Backstroke with a 55.16.
In the final session of the meet on Saturday afternoon, Brooke Brogdon broke a five-year-old school record in the 200 Backstroke with a 2:20.33. Another notable swim was Purdy capturing the men's 100 Freestyle posting a time of 48.08.
Berry's women took sixth out of a field of 10, while the Viking men finished third of six teams.
The Vikings will be back in action in two weeks at Savannah College of Art and Design Invitational in Savannah.
