Women's soccer fights back to beat Hendrix, 3-1

ROME, Ga. - - Led by freshman Michaela Routh's two goals in the second half, the Berry College women's soccer team fought back from a 1-0 deficit against Hendrix College to win their eighth straight game Friday afternoon, 3-1, at Ford Field.

The win improves the Vikings to 13-2 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the Southern Athletic Association. The loss drops the Warriors to 6-7-1 and 1-3-1 in the SAA.

In the 42nd minute. Hendrix's Katherin Aristondo scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Samantha Lallas, putting the Warriors up 1-0.

BC rallied back and tied the game in the 62nd minute as Maggie Midkiff, unassisted, scored her 20th goal of the season to even the score, 1-1. It was her 20th goal of the year.

With the momentum now in their favor, Berry quickly scored again in the 68th minute as Routh scored her first goal of the game and put Berry ahead, 2-1. Routh scored again in the 78th minute on an assist from Chandler Maddox.

The Vikings dominated in shots (22-6) and corner kicks (6-5).

"I was really happy with the character we showed today," said Head Coach Lorenzo Canalis. "We did not play a good first half. But the team came back in the second half and dominated."

Jordan Rausch defended the goal for Hendrix and collected six saves in the loss. Jackie McGivney had two saves on the day for the Vikings.
