Centre men edged Vikings

ROME, Georgia --Berry College swimming and diving began their competitive season at home with a dual meet against rival Centre College. Full results

The women opened up the meet with a first place win in the 200 medley relay (Brooke Brogdon, Janelle Spanjers, Leah Berndt, and Haley Brown- 1:56.29).

The Viking mens' team of Garrison Bemis, Robbie Ellwanger, Conor Monaghan and Johnathon Purdy followed up with a win and a Cage record time of 1:38.03. The Vikings went on to take first place in multiple individual events on both the men's and women's side.

Thewomen took first place in the 100 breaststroke (Spanjers- 1:11.85), 50 freestyle (Haley Brown- 25.56), 200 breaststroke ( Spanjers- 2:35.84).

On the men's side, the Vikings took first place in the 1000 free (Mac Stovall- 10:25.89), 200 butterfly (Monaghan- 2:02.42), 50 freestyle (Purdy- 21.62), 100 freestyle (Purdy- 48.79), 500 yard freestyle (Stovall-4:58.19), 100 yard butterfly (Monaghan- 53.38), and 400 freestyle relay (Bemis, Purdy, Cameron Grant, and Monaghan- 3:14.51)

Despite the two exceptional relays and strong individual performances throughout, Centre outlasted the Viking men, 151.5 to 133.5. The Colonel women prevailed 181-98.

The Vikings compete at Sewanee next weekend.
