Vikings earn shutout at Millsaps, 4-0

Box Score

JACKSON, Misssissippi -- Maggie Midkiff tallied two goals as Berry College cruised to a 4-0 win at Millsaps College on Friday night.

The Vikings improved to 11-2 and 3-0 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Majors fell to 2-8-1 and 0-3.

Midkiff headed-in a corner kick cross assist from Sarah Dillon in the 26th minute. That was the only first half tally and the score remained 1-0 at the break.

"This was a good win, but the 4-0 score is a little deceiving," said Berry Head Coach Lorenzo Canalis. "I thought it was a tough, physical game and we were challenged to keep a sustained possession throughout the match."

Early in the second half, Lauren Sykora headed-home a deflection to push the margin to 2-0 in the 47th minute.

The Vikings added two scores in the last 10 minutes for the 4-0 result. Midkiff converted a penalty kick in the 81st minute. Less than two minutes later, Michaela Routh shot and hit the crossbar. Joanna Logan then scored on the rebound.

BC led in shots (26-4) and corner kicks (5-1).

Jackie McGivney started in goal, played 60 minutes and got the win. Melissa Sanchez played the rest of the game and shared the shutout--the team's 10th--with McGivney.

Elise Davis had nine saves and took the loss for the Majors.

The Vikings play at Birmingham-Southern on Sunday. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m.
