Hot-shooting women cruise at Toccoa Falls, 96-54

TOCCOA, Ga. -- Mel McLean scored a game-high 21 points in Berry College's 96-54 win at Toccoa Falls on Tuesday night. McLean was 7-13 shooting, made four 3-pointers and had a team-best nine rebounds.

Berry improved to 8-7 and the Eagles dropped to 5-9.

Chanlir Segarra added 19 points and dished 11 assists. Freshman Valerie McLure notched a career-best 13 points for the Vilkes. Marissa Ivey scored 12 points on 4-4 shooting from beyond the arc.

Coming off two cold-shooting performances, Berry shot 51-percent (36-71) against the Eagles. The Vikes made 11-24 3-pointers and led in rebounds, 47-33.

The Vikings led 48-28 at halftime. Berry scored a season-high in points, forced 23 turnovers and held Toccoa to 32-percent shooting. 

"We shot the ball well tonight, and we're tough to defend when our shots are following." said Berry Head Coach Stephanie Dunn. "Mel and Marissa were good on the perimeter and Chanlir played a spectacular all-around game tonight. This game is good for our confidence as we get get ready for two conference games this weekend."

Katie Calloway tallied 15 points and Jeanelle Arnold added 14 for Toccoa Falls.

Berry returns to Southern Athletic Association play when they host Sewanee on Friday night.
