ROME, Ga. – After learning it had earned the inaugural Southern Athletic Association regular season title, Berry's softball team swept a Sunday doubleheader and set the program's single-season record for wins. Berry won the opener, 14-0, and rallied to capture the nightcap, 10-9, against LaGrange College on Senior Day.

Berry finished its schedule 27-9 overall and 17-5 in SAA competition. LaGrange dropped to 18-20.

In game one, Berry used Caillee Shamoun's (11-3) pitching and several big innings to emerge victorious in five innings. During a nine-run fourth, Courtney Hodges crushed Cheyenne Pruitt's pitch to left center for a grand slam home run--Hodges' first HR of the season. She finished with one run, one hit, four RBIs and two walks.

Also contributing at the plate were Jessica Washington and Abby Daniels. Washington notched three runs and three hits, and Daniels recorded two runs, three hits and two RBIs. LaGrange had hits from Christy Flick, Kara Patterson and Oglesby.

Shamoun threw her fifth shutout of the year. She allowed three-hits in the five-inning contest. Kayla Folds (13-8) took the loss for LaGrange, and allowed five hits and five runs (four earned) in two and a third innings.

In game two, Berry charged out to a 2-0 lead through two innings but fell behind after a five-run third by LaGrange. During that frame, the Panthers knocked out starter Natalie Boyd, who lasted two and a third innings and surrendered five runs (three earned).

Still trailing in the bottom of the seventh, Berry rallied to tie the game, 9-9, on Washington's RBI ground-out to second, which scored pinch-runner Shakarah Boswell from third. Berry captured the win on a Lacey Herring RBI double to right field in the eighth, which scored Sara Vigue.

Herring picked up two runs, four hits and two RBIs, and Daniels kept rolling with three hits in three at-bats. For LaGrange Flick had two hits and three RBIs, and Danielle Newbern compiled three runs and three hits.

Shamoun (12-3) tossed two scoreless innings for the win in relief of Allison Coronado to earn another win. Folds (13-9) was tagged with her second loss of the day and pitched all seven and a third innings for LaGrange. Her final line read 16 hits, 10 runs (six earned) and two walks.

The Vikings will compete as the number one seed in the SAA Championship tournament next weekend in Danville, Ky. As the top seed, Berry gets a first round bye. The Vikes will play the Millsaps-Centre winner at 4 p.m. on Friday.

NOTES: Berry honored its six seniors in a pre-game ceremony before first pitch. Lindsey Campbell, Herring, Shamoun, Stoll and Washington were acknowledged as the five remaining players from the program's inaugural team in 2009-10. Additionally junior Holly Todd was recognized as this will be her final season before heading to Mercer University…Daniels went a perfect six-for-six in the doubleheader for Berry…the previous record for wins was 25, which was set last season.
