Box Score

Rachel LeRoy Gives Berry Win With 56th Minute Strike

Berry's Rachel LeRoy scored in the 56th minute to lift the Lady Vikings to a 1-0 victory over Covenant in a women's soccer match in Lookout Mountain, Ga., Saturday evening.

LeRoy headed in a cross from Kim Treese over Covenant goalkeeper Hannah Bales' head to score what turned out to be the match-winner.

Berry head coach Lorenzo Canalis said Covenant's defense made it hard for his team to break through.

"They were putting nine people behind the ball," Canalis said.  "We had a few chances early, but the longer it took for us to score, the harder it became.  Most of the match was played at midfield."

Berry's defense, however, has been solid all season long, and recorded its third consecutive shutout victory, and its fifth in the past sixth matches.

Berry outshot Covenant 12-8 in the match, including a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal.  Eight different players attempted at least one shot for Berry.

Lady Vikings' goalkeeper Brooke Clement saved both shots she faced.  Clement has not allowed a goal in the past 288 minutes and 39 seconds.

Berry improved to 11-3-1 with the victory.

The Lady Vikes conclude the 2011 season Tuesday afternoon when they travel to NCAA Division II Young Harris.
