Erica Crumley and Danielle Sisk scored 13 points apiece and Berry College led for all but 16 seconds in the Lady Vikings' 70-61 victory over Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Ga., Tuesday.
Berry jumped out to an 8-3 lead three-and-a-half minutes into the contest, but the host Lady Scots reeled off six straight points, capped by a three-pointer by Hannah Craft with 14:28 remaining in the opening half to take a 9-8 lead. But Crumley drilled a three-pointer on Berry's next possession, and the Lady Vikings never looked back.
Crumley's trey was the beginning of a 15-2 run that put Berry ahead 23-11. Covenant chipped Berry's advantage down to five, 25-20, with 4:16 remaining in the half, but the Lady Vikes would fashion another late run to go ahead by 14 and eventually take a 37-25 lead into the intermission.
Berry's lead remained in double digits for most of the second half before Covenant whittled it down to 65-59 on Christina Core's jumper with 1:12 on the clock. The Lady Vikings' Brittany Coughlin answered with a three pointer just six seconds later to give Berry a nine-point advantage and put the game away. Covenant finished with a jump shot by Jessie Blankenship and Berry scored on a pair of free throws by Holly Compton to close out the scorebook.
Crumley and Sisk were joined in double figures by Kendall Davis, who scored 11 points. Sisk also hauled down a team-high seven rebounds and picked up three steals for the Lady Vikings (2-1).
Covenant's Margaret Cross led all players with 21 points. Blankenship finished with a double-double, recording 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, and Craft chipped in 12 points for the Lady Scots (0-2).
Berry is scheduled to return to action Saturday at Reinhardt.
