Vikings edged out of NCAA Women's Soccer championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Berry College women's soccer team was not selected to play in the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Championship.

The Vikings finished with a 16-4 record and earned regional rankings in each of the last three weeks. Berry's four defeats were to teams which qualified for the tournament: Capital, Emory and Centre on two occasions.

Additionally, BC defeated two teams--Piedmont and Salem--which made the championships.

"Obviously, we were on the bubble," said Head Coach Lorenzo Canalis. "Christopher Newport was one spot ahead of us in the regional rankings, and they got in. Unfortunately for us, a number of favored teams lost in the conference tournaments, which hurt our chances to get an at-large bid."

Either way, Berry had a noteworthy season. The Vikings won 12 more games than in the 2012 season.
