CONWAY, Ark. – The Vikings mounted a second half comeback, but a 10-goal first half deficit was too much to overcome, as the Berry College women’s lacrosse team fell to Southern Athletic Association (SAA) competitor Hendrix College 16-14 on Sunday afternoon.
Hendrix jumped out to an early lead, as both teams tallied back and forth in the first 30 minutes of play, combining for 18 goals by halftime. The Warriors led 10-8 going into the second half. Berry fell behind 14-11 before rallying for three straight goals to tie the game at 14-14 with 7:01 to play. Hendrix answered though, adding two tallies in the final 5:40 of play to ensure the 16-14 victory.
Miranda Smith led the Vikings’ offense in the outing, scoring five goals, while dishing out two assists. Rose Blanchard remained hot on offense as well, adding three goals on the night, as well as 10 draw controls for Berry. Ella Makin took the complete-game loss in goal for the Vikings, recording 17 saves on 33 shots, as Berry moves to 4-3 overall on the year, as well as 1-2 in conference play.
Reilly Frazier led the Warriors with four goals in the contest. Both Morgan Dasch and Kaitlyn Smith contributed to the Hendrix offense as well, adding three goals and two assists apiece in the win. Alexis Truitt earned the win in goal for the Warriors, recording four saves, as Hendrix improves to 2-1 overall, as well as 2-1 in the SAA.
Hendrix led the contest in shots (43-26) and draw controls (18-14), while Berry led the matchup in ground balls (13-12). The Vikings finished the outing with 18 turnovers, though, to Hendrix’s 13.
