Softball Finishes Perfect at Home, Sweeps LaGrange on Tuesday

ROME, Ga. - A solid day by the Berry College softball offense and defense lead to the sweep of the LaGrange Panthers on Tuesday afternoon. The Vikings won game one 10-0 and finished off the day with a 7-2 victory in game two.

With the wins Berry improved to 30-4 on the season and finished the regular season undefeated at home with a record of 17-0.

GAME ONE RECAP:

  • The Vikings opened up the scoring in the first inning, with Kylie Aiken reaching on an error and Brittany Tuttle scoring from third to give Berry an early 1-0 lead.
  • Aiken then scored on Bayleigh Masterson’s triple to make it 2-0.
  • MaKayley Cain rounded out the inning with a two-RBI single to bring home both Shelby Daniel and Masterson and push the lead to 4-0
  • Berry then plated six additional runs on three RBI singles, as well as two RBI doubles, to expand the lead to 10-0 by the end of the second inning.
  • Kassie Howard improved to 19-1 on the year with a dominant performance in the circle for Berry, allowing no hits and finishing the night with seven strikeouts.

GAME TWO RECAP:

  • The Vikings kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, as Brittany Tuttle scored on an error to give Berry an early 1-0 lead.
  • The Panthers tied it up in the top of the second though, when Michaela Keel scored on a groundout by Hailey Jones to tie the game at 1-1.
  • The Vikings quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the second, as Kayla Sangrey scored on Lauren Evans double to push the score to 2-1.
  • Two additional base hits, as well as a sacrifice bunt in the same inning then expanded Berry’s lead to 5-1.
  • The Vikings then added to their lead in the fourth when Tuttle scored on Aiken’s groundout to expand the lead to 6-1.
  • In the top of the fifth, the Panthers closed the gap, as Carolyn Harkness scored on Brittany Todd’s single to right field to cut the score to 6-2.
  • Berry added their last run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Elisabeth Federici homered over the left field wall to ensure the 7-2 victory.
  • Makenzie Flynt (5-2) earned the win on the mound in the circle for Berry. She tossed five complete innings, while allowing six hits and two runs, striking out four Panthers.
