Softball Continues Hot Streak, Improves to 12-0

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Berry College softball team opened Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play on Saturday with a two-game sweep over the Colonels of Centre College. Game scores were 5-0 and 6-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Berry opened up scoring in game one off of a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • Brittany Tuttle then singled in the bottom of the third inning to knock in a run and push the score to 2-0. Sarah Moore and Kenzie Fleming each added RBIs to move the score to 4-0 before the end of the third.
  • The Vikings capped off the victory with an RBI triple by Brittany Ferrell in the bottom of the sixth inning to push the score to 5-0.
  • Centre scored their first run of the day in the top of the first inning of game two. Jessika Young singled to right field for the Colonels to hit in Abigail Harper and move the score to 1-0.
  • Berry answered in their very next at bat, with Marie Collop knocking a three-run homer in the bottom of the same inning to give the Vikings a 3-1 lead.
  • Kylie Aiken then scored in the bottom of the second inning off of a wild pitch to move Berry’s lead to 4-1.
  • Centre’s Sarah Aubuchon singled down the right field line in the top of the third inning to cut the lead to 4-2.
  • The Vikings tacked on a final two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning from back-to-back singles by Ferrell and Bethany Hunt to ensure the 6-2 victory.

  • Tuttle: 2-for-5, 2 R, RBI, 2 SB
  • Collop: 2-for-6, 2 R, 4 RBI

  • Makenzie Flynt: 4.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 5 BB

CENTRE STATISTICAL STANDOUTS:

  • Harper: 1-for-5, 2 BB, R, SB
  • Aubuchon: 2-for-5, RBI, BB
  • Young: 3.0 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO

NOTABLES:

  • Collop earned the win in game one for the Vikings in the circle, allowing only two hits in the outing. Collop tossed six innings, allowing only one earned run in the victory as well.
  • The Vikings improved on their program record start, now sitting at a perfect 12-0 overall, as well as 2-0 in the SAA.
  • Centre falls to 2-4 and 0-2.
