MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Coming off strong swims at the Viking Classic, the Berry College men and women’s swim and dive teams gear up for the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) conference championship, beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
Both Vikings teams finished fourth at last year’s meet, placing 12 student-athletes on the All-SAA team. With one of their strongest rosters of swimmers in program history, Berry looks for a shot in the top-three to finish out post-season competition.
The Vikings have already earned five SAA Swimmer of the Week honors this season, with senior Haley Brown and freshman Dylan White earning the accolades following the Viking Classic two weeks back. Brown finished the meet as the high point scorer after competing in seven events for Berry throughout the three-session meet, securing first place victories in each of her three individual races. White earned his second SAA Swimmer of the Week accolade after finishing tied for second as the high point scorer on the men’s side, winning two individual races of his own as well.
Berry has also broken multiple school records already this season, eyeing a shot at a few more before the season is up. With a mix of seasoned veterans, as well as ten freshmen student-athletes on the roster, the Vikings head into SAA competition more confident than ever.
“We are looking forward to a great conference championship,” head coach Paul Flinchbaugh said. “The team has put in so much hard work and had a fantastic training trip, so I can’t wait to see how fast they swim and how well they dive.”
The four-day meet will take place in Birmingham, Ala., at the Birmingham Crossplex. Competition begins on Wednesday, Feb. 14 with finals competition finishing on Saturday, Feb. 17.
