Berry Men's Lacrosse Downed by Visiting Roanoke

ROME, Ga. -- Fourteenth-ranked Roanoke defeated Berry College, 24-9, at Valhalla on Sunday. The Vikings dropped to 1-2 and the Maroons moved to 1-0.

Andrew Elgin, Jake Emche and Bailey Martin all had three points for the Vikings. Martin tallied three times and Emche scored once and dished two assists. Elgin potted two goals and had one assist. A total of seven Vikings had points in the contest.

Roanoke--which led 9-3 at the end of the first quarter--had 15 players record points in the game. The Maroons held a 14-5 edge at halftime.

Tyler McWilliams had four goals and three assists for the visitors. Kevin Jackson recorded four goals and added two helpers; Matthew Lintner netted five goals for RC.

Nick Voso (1-2) had 13 saves in the opening 49:08 of the game. Zach McConnell played the final 10:52 and gave up two goals.

For Roanoke, Ian Davies got the win and played the first 30 minutes. He allowed five goals and had three saves.

Roanoke led in shots (59-31), ground balls (40-35) and faceoffs (21-15).  Berry's Don McIwain won 13 draws in the game. Max Kraus won 19 faceoffs for the Maroons.

The Vikings host Piedmont College on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m. at Valhalla.
