Men's lacrosse defeats Hendrix in SAA quarterfinals, 19-10

ROME, Ga. -- Nine different Vikings had points--and Berry College scored a season high for goals--as they defeated Hendrix, 19-10, in an SAA quarterfinal match on Saturday.

After its seventh straight win, Berry improved to 11-4. BC will face Centre on Friday at Sewanee in a conference semifinal match. Hendrix ends its year with a 6-8 record.

The score was tied 3-3 after the first quarter. The Warriors tallied first in the second period before Berry rolled off the next 5 goals to pull ahead, 8-3. The Vikes held a 9-6 lead at halftime.

Jake Emche and Cory Hall both had 2 goals and 4 assists for Berry. Quentin Johnson netted 4 goals for the home team.

"Our offense was really clicking today and we had a lot of people involved," said BC Head Coach Curtis Gilbert. "We have some things we need to work on, but I really like the way we are playing heading to the SAA final four."

Hendrix had the edge in ground balls, 38-30. The Vikings led in shots (48-23) and faceoffs (17-13). 

Michael Troy won 11 faceoffs and scooped 6 ground balls for Berry. Nick Voso started in the goal for BC. He had 3 saves and improved to 8-3 for the year.

Carson Boone tallied 4 times for Hendrix. 

After the game, the Vikings were presented an SAA regular season championship trophy (see photo below).
