Berry men’s lacrosse defeated Birmingham-Southern,10-3

ROME, Ga. – Berry defeated Birmingham-Southern 10-3 on Friday. The Vikings improved to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in SAA conference play. Birmingham-Southern dropped to 7-7, 3-3.

Eight different Vikings had points in the game. Bryan Byers had three goals, while Cory Hall and Maxwell Smerka scored two a piece. Hall had one assist and Nat Morey dished two helpers for the home team.

It was the defense, however, that shined on Friday. Vikings goalkeeper Jordan Boreman made 12 saves on 15 shots against for a save percentage of .800. Berry's three goals allowed tied a season-low.

Berry maintained a lead through halftime, which gave them a 4-2 advantage. In the third period the Vikings made a charge resulting in three goals and a drastic momentum shift.

The final period saw the Vikings outscore Birmingham-Southern 3-1, increasing their second half advantage 6-1.

Birmingham-Southern keeper Conor Perine made 8 saves on 18 shots against, and allowed 10 goals.

Berry led Birmingham-Southern in shots (34-24), and ground balls (29-23).

"It was great to rebound with a win today," said BC Head Coach Curtis Gilbert. "We are looking forward to closing our regular season strong on Sunday."

The Vikings play again at home this Sunday against Millsaps at 1 p.m. It is senior day and there will be recognition prior to the game.
