ATLANTA, Ga. – Berry College men's lacrosse had nine student-athletes picked to Southern Athletic All-Conference team. Full SAA All Conference Team
Smerka, a sophomore, scored 31 goals, dished eight assists and scooped 32 ground balls. Chase, also a sophomore, was the Vikings' top defensive stopper. He passed two assists, caused 24 turnovers, was second on the team in ground balls (49) and helped a defense which posted a 7.44 goals-against average. Akers, a freshman, had five goals, two assists, 51 ground balls and caused seven turnovers.
Byers, a junior midfielder, potted 31 goals, passed 13 assists and scooped 15 ground balls. Hall led the team in points (55) and goals (44). The sophomore attacker was third on the club with 43 ground balls. Edgeworth, a junior long stick middie, scooped 41 ground balls, won 13 face offs and caused 11 turnovers.
Three Vikings earned at least one point in the voting and were named honorable mention. They were: goalkeeper Jordan Boreman, attackman Blake Gwizdalski, defender Jake Lane and defender Patrick Towner.
The 2013 BC men's lacrosse finished with a program-best 13-5 record. The team earned an SAA regular-season co-championship and then lost--12-11 in double-overtime--to Sewanee in the inaugural SAA title game.
