ROME, Ga. – Five Vikings finished with multi-hit games, as the Berry College baseball team defeated Adrian College 10-3 on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs opened up scoring in the top of the second inning, as Frank Resto singled to left field to bring home Chad Paddock and give Adrian their first 1-0 lead of the day. Adrian then added an additional run in the top of the fourth inning, following a Berry error to push the lead to 2-0. Adrian would never lead again though, as the Vikings plated six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Zack Walch and Spence Johns opened up the Berry offense, adding RBI singles to push the score to 3-2 and give Berry their first lead of the game. Quinn Smith then reached on a fielder’s choice to bring home Casey Whitaker and expand the lead to 4-2. Tyler Calvert and Dylan Beasley rounded out the inning with a ground out RBI and a single, respectively, to push the lead to 6-2 by the end of the fifth.

Berry then tacked on at least one run in each of their final three at-bats, ensuring the 10-3 victory. Johns and Whitaker each added additional RBI groundouts, Devin Post added an RBI single and Smith added a homer in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Berry’s offense finished the contest with 14 hits to earn their eighth victory of the season.

Adrian pushed for a comeback, tacking on their final run following an RBI single by Chad Paddock up the middle in the top of the eighth inning, but the deficit proved too large as Berry handed the Bulldogs their first loss of the season. Ben Coker (3-1) earned the win on the mound for Berry, tossing seven innings, while allowing just six hits and one earned run, striking out seven Bulldogs. Daniel McMichael (0-1) took the loss for Adrian, tossing four innings, while allowing seven hits and four earned runs, as the Bulldogs fell to 3-1 on the year.
