Vikings Outlast Marietta to Close Series

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Marietta College Pioneers traveled down to Mount Berry, GA to play 2 against the Berry College Vikings to finish off a previous game hosted by Marietta ending with a late 9-7 victory in favor of the Vikings and Berry followed it up by another comeback victory in the 9-inning affair with an 8-6 win.

Game One (Berry 9 - Marietta 7)
Jackson Halla got the ball for the Vikings, going 3.2 innings on 6 hits. Cam Welsh picked him up, going 4.1 scoreless on just two hits and 1 walk and recorded the win.

Marietta scored in the first to take the early lead after a double making it 1-0.

In the top of the 2nd Charles Pulaski singled to bring home Austin Jetmore. Right after Ethan Finch singled to bring home Pulaski to give the Vikings a 2-1 advantage early.

In the top of the 3rd a Riley Uhls hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Garrett Lang to extend the lead to 3-1.

In the bottom of the 4th, the Pioneer offense caught a spark plating 6 to give them a 7-3 lead heading into the 5th.

The Viking offense answered at the top of the 5th after a Lang sacrifice fly and Uhls scoring an error to cut the deficit to 5-7.

The Vikings picked up right where they left off at the top of the 6th after 3 runs coming home courtesy of Brighton Quinnelly (pinch ran for Hayden Gilbert), Will Waters, and Lang once again. The Vikings had the lead 6, 8-7.

In the top of the 9th Riley Uhls homered to give the Vikings some insurance going into the 9th making it 9-7.

Jon Strydom came in the 9th and delivered with a save and allowed no runs and racked up a strikeout to close out the continuation game with a win.

Game Two (Berry 8 - Marietta 6)

The Vikings were down 5-0 early but battled back with some big time at bats and strong pitching performances. Brady Greene threw 3.2 scoreless innings, followed by 1 run in 2 innings from Eric Fountain. Cole Porter relieved Fountain, going 2 scoreless and Jon Strydom came in for the 9th to close the door once again.

In the bottom of the 2nd after a 5 run first from the Pioneer offense Will Waters singled to bring home Austin Jetmore to cut the score to 5-1.

The Pioneers plated 1 in the 5th to bring the lead back to 5 making it 6-1.

Shortly after in the bottom of the 5th Jacob Bridges singled to bring home Xavier Byams. Riley Uhls delivered with a single to bring home Bridges and Will Waters to cut the score to 6-4.

In the bottom of the 6th, Bridges hit a sacrifice fly to right to bring home Byams cutting the deficit to 6-5.

In the bottom of the 7th, Charles Pulaski delivered with a big 2 strike go ahead single to bring home Uhls and Tanaka Mukono giving the Vikings their first lead of the day to make it 7-6.

Jacob Bridges came home in the bottom of the 8th to give Berry an insurance run making it 8-6 with 3 more outs to get.

Jon Strydom once again came in for the 9th for another save opportunity to deliver once again earning his second save of the day and the Vikings second win of the day, 8-6.

The Vikings will host the Lagrange Panthers at home on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
