LAGRANGE, Ga. - The Berry College baseball team traveled to Lagrange to take on the Panthers in a midweek matchup. Berry was able to flip the script from their previous meeting, winning 11-6.
Berry was able to get on the board early in the first off an RBI from Riley Uhls, driving in Garrett Lang. Cole Porter got the ball first for the Vikings a bullpen game for the Berry. Porter, making his second career start, pitched a clean inning and turned it over to the rest of the Berry pitching staff. Berry then added on another run in the third inning, again from a Uhls single. Lagrange was able to get the runs back in the third inning, tying it up at 2-2.
Austin Jetmore was able to break the stalemate in the fifth inning with his second hit of the day, driving in one run. The Berry lead was quickly gone as the Panthers added on two more in the bottom of the fifth inning, making the score 4-3. The Vikings came right back, scoring five of their own, with singles from Uhls and Lang, and a double from Chaz Moore. Moore recently became a starter in the Vikings outfield and has produced greatly for Berry. Going into today's game, Moore is 5-9 with two walks. Going into the bottom of the sixth inning, Berry leads 8-4.
Cooper Chunn was able to get crucial outs on the mound for the Vikings during the middle of the game. Chunn closed out the sixth inning and got three quick outs in the seventh to get the Berry offense back to work. Marco Cabrera took over in the seventh inning, making his season debut. Cabrera went three up and three down, striking out two in an easy inning of work. Moore added another RBI with a single through the left side in the top of the eighth. Cabrera got the first two outs in the bottom half of the inning before giving the ball to Wynn Boren to close out the eighth. Berry was able to add on two runs in the ninth to all but put the game away. The Vikings closed out the ninth and went on to win and move to 10-5 on the season.
Berry will be back in action Saturday where they start conference play at home against Sewanee.
