WACO, Texas — Berry College head football coach
Tony Kunczewski has been selected as the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III Region 3 Coach of the Year after leading his team to their 7th SAA Championship, a 9-1 overall record and the highest seed entering the playoffs in program history. It's the second time Coach Kunczewski has earned the honor and it comes after earlier being named SAA Coaching Staff of the Year.
In one of the best seasons in school history the Vikings under Coach Kunczewski placed 15 offensive players on the SAA All Conference list and 13 defensive players. The Vikings also earned a top eight NPI ranking and secured a first round bye for the first time in school history and a number two seed in their bracket of the NCAA Championships. In 10 seasons at the helm of the Vikings, Kunczewski has compiled an 82-37 overall record and an impressive 40-6 record at Valhalla Stadium, Berry's home venue. He has coached 194 All-Conference selections, eleven SAA major award winners, over 200 SAA Academic Honor Roll honorees, a Geico Player of the Year winner, a Gigliardi Semi-Finalist and earned the league's Coach of the Year honor five times. The Vikings look to continue their great season as they host LaGrange on Saturday, November 29 at 12:00 PM.
