Vikings Surge to Victory with Huge Game Two Win

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Softball took down the Panthers of Birmingham Southern in both games today to stay undefeated in SAA play and increase their overall record to 29-3.

Game One Berry 7 - BSC 5
Freshman Ava Fouts won her 12th game in the circle this season pitching all seven innings with five hits, five runs, and five strikeouts.

Things at the plate looked up for the Vikings with a three run first inning. Anna Jackson's single to rightfield triggered a run and an error that would score two more for a Berry 3-0 lead.

Both pitchers were holding it down in the circle across the next few innings until the fourth when the Panthers finally got on the board. Birmingham-Southern brought it within one at 3-2, but Berry answered in the sixth with another three-run inning.

Starting with a double from Katie Parker, Elly Bennett, Sydney Moroney, and Morgan Frye all hit singles in aide of the runs.

Frye was exceptional at the plate today going 3-4 and Jackson's three RBI's kept the Vikings stable.

Daniel would cross the plate in the seventh off a wild pitch to give Berry the 7-2 advantage.

The Panthers tried to give the top ranked Vikings a scare in the bottom of the 7th scoring three runs, but Fouts shut it down in the circle as the team captured the game one victory.

Game Two Berry 17 - BSC 3
A THIRTEEN run sixth inning, blanked the Panthers in game two.

Danielle Sudick and Casey Holloway owned the circle in today's second game with Holloway taking the win and increasing her pitching record to 5-0 with a stunning six strikeouts in her 2.1 innings pitched!

Senior Morgan Frye led at the plate once again with two homeruns in her two at bats to keep her team in the game through the first four innings, but by the bottom of the fourth the Vikings found themselves down 3-2.

Unphased, Berry trusted in their bats and Ava Fouts double in the fifth gained the 4-3 lead that would only continue to grow.

The sixth inning was enormous for the Vikings, scoring the most runs in an inning than they have all year, and also setting a team high 14 RBIs.

With 11 hits in the sixth, Berry was unstoppable. It all began with singles from Shelby Daniel, Anna Jackson, and pitcher Holloway.

After an amazing offensive inning, Berry took the field in hopes for a quick three outs to close out the game and Holloway delivered with three consecutive strikeouts!

The hits kept rolling in and the Panthers decided to make a pitching change and then intentionally walked Frye who already had two homers on the game!

Jackson and Holloway's doubles scored the 12 and 14th runs for the Vikings and Elly Bennett would be the final player to cross the plate for the 17th run of the game.

The Vikings will be back in action tomorrow at BSC for the final game of the series.
