Softball advances at SAA Championships

BRANDON, Miss. —The Berry College Vikings (30-6) defeated the Millsaps College Majors 3-1 in the second round of the Southern Athletic Association tournament.

Brittany Ferrell and Sarah Moore each tallied 3 hits to lead the Vikings' offense. Ferrell connected with a double and two singles, while Moore contributed three singles and an RBI.

The Vikings scored the first runs of the game in the third inning with a Moore RBI single with the bases loaded. Kylie Aiken added the second run of the inning on a fielder's choice.

The Majors cut the lead in half in the fourth inning with a bases-loaded RBI single by Missy Romero.

However, BC extended their lead with a single by Marie Collop to score Brittany Tuttle from second base.

Allison Coronado started the game and went 3.1 innings. She allowed six hits with one run. Kassie Howard (17-1) finished the game with the last 3.2 innings. She didn't allow a hit or run. Howard picked up the win and struck out two Majors along the way.

Katelyn Murray and Kaitlyn Casias led Millsaps (18-12) by each collecting a pair of singles.

Berry plays rival Birmingham-Southern in the semifinals of the SAA tournament on Sunday. The game starts at 10 a.m. CDT.
