ATLANTA — Tossing 13.1 innings for the Vikings, while boasting a 0.00 ERA, Kassie Howard led the Berry College softball team to a 3-0 sweep of the Birmingham-Southern College Panthers this weekend and earned another Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Pitcher of the Week honor.
Howard earned the 3-1 victory in game one against the Panthers on Saturday, tossing all seven innings for Berry, while allowing six hits and no earned runs, striking out nine batters. She then threw the final 3.1 innings for the Vikings in Berry’s 5-3 win over Birmingham-Southern on Sunday, allowing no hits and no runs, while striking out five additional Panthers. Howard rounded out the weekend earning her first save of the year in game two on Sunday, as she tossed the final three innings for Berry, allowing only two hits and no runs, striking out four Panthers, en route to the Vikings’ 4-1 game three victory over BSC.
Kassie earned two wins and a save on the weekend, striking out 18 batters in her 13.1 innings of work, while holding her opponents to a mere .182 batting average and allowing just eight hits and no earned runs. On the year, Howard now ranks in the top five in every conference pitching category, including ERA (0.84), wins (18), strikeouts (142) and saves (1), leading Berry to a 28-4 and 13-1 record.
